Description:  Wireless cellular networks have evolved from carrying low-rate voice signals to high-rate video data. Today, there is an increasing demand for mobility services such as vehicle-to-everything (V2X). Towards emerging mobility applications, it is of theoretical and practical interest to study communication waveforms robust to high-mobility channels. In the first part of the lecture, we study the basic approaches to deal with inter-symbol interference (ISI) over frequency selective channels such as single-carrier transmission with equalizers and multi-carrier transmission (OFDM). In the second part, we introduce the time-frequency selective channels where the selectivity in both time and frequency domains is incurred by Doppler shift (typically when communication nodes move). We will study enhanced communication waveforms as well as classical radar waveforms adapted to localise a target and estimate parameters related to the target.
