Titel: Introduction to synthesis of nanostructured materials
(Einführung in die Synthese von nanostrukturierten Materialien)
Art: ProSeminar
Semesterwochenstunden: 2
Angeboten im Semester: Wintersemester 2022-2023
Inhalt:
The ability of growing high-quality epitaxial films of conventional crystalline materials (e.g. silicon and GaAs) forms the basis for the development of semiconductor technology. Quantum confinement in nanostructured materials allows to study new physics and promise dramatic improvement in solar cell, biological, photonics and spintronics applications by tailoring their optoelectronic properties.
This seminar will provide focuses on fundamentals of nucleation, crystal growth and epitaxy and the experimental methods to epitaxially synthesize semiconducting materials. Specific examples of advanced techniques to fabricate novel nanostructures, study the surface morphology and probe the fundamental vibrational and optical properties in low dimensional semiconductors such as quantum dots, nanowires and 2D materials will be given.
Examples topics will include:
- Epitaxial growth of semiconductors by Molecular Beam Epitaxy (I): QDs, Phase Change Materials and van der Waals Epitaxy
- Epitaxial growth of semiconductors by Molecular Beam Epitaxy (II): III-Nitrides and Nanowires
- In situ techniques for monitoring the growth: RHEED and LEED
- Scanning probe methods for low dimensional materials
- Photoluminescence and Raman spectroscopies of nanostructures
