Public Space in Theory and in Practice is a Lecture which is held weekly in a hybrid format.
The lecture is stuctured in 4 Parts. Part 1 begins with a presentation of the diversity of the concept of the public sphere. In the following lectures, in Part2, typologies of public spaces are presented and discussed with the participating students. Part 3: Analytical methods for determining public space complement the topic of typologies. Finally, research on public space is discussed using case studies and put up for discussion again. Part 4 of the lecture deals with planning methods and approaches in dealing with the redesign of public spaces. Practical examples are used to inspect public spaces during 2 city walks.
The examination in the lecture is the preparation of an examination assignment as an individual paper on an example typology of public space. In the summer semester 2023, this will be the typology of the pedestrian zone. The paper is to be submitted on 4 DIN A4 pages. The layout template is provided and must be adhered to. The submission is due by the end of August 2023.
