Welcome to the Railway Systems Seminar!
The course consists of an interactive seminar where we take a more global approach discussing railway systems worldwide. By working on different projects we aim to define solutions for railway system design and operation - particularly focussing on working towards a Digital Rail Technology Revolution
The main topics coverd by the seminar are:
- Railway Infrastructure
- Maintenance and System Performance
- Maglev Systems
- Railway Organization
At
the beginning of the term, a general overview on railway systems
worldwide is provided. Subsequently, you will choose a focus subject to
investigate and analyze in an research project, which is then
presented and discussed in class towards the end of the term. The
project period is complemented by weekly discussion rounds where
students can get support or guest speakers on specific topics relating
to the course context are invited.
The
topic selection and group formation will be done in the first two
weeks. We strongly advise that you attend these classes as it will be
difficult to take part once the teams have been formed. If you should
not be able to attend especially the course in the second week on April
30, we advise to reach out to your classmates as well as the course
responsibles (jonas.aumeier@tum.de, martin.tosstorff@tum.de). There is
also a discussion forum here on moodle that you can use to get in
contact. The suggestions on possible topics can be found in the slides
for the first class as well as in the overview given below.
